Mrs. Indira Dahal is the wife of the late martyr Peshal Kumar Dahal, who sacrificed his life during Nepal's democratic struggle against the Panchayat system. He was killed by police gunfire in an incident known as the Okhaldhunga Incident. Her family's history is closely associated with Nepal's democratic movement and its legacy of sacrifice, courage, and commitment to democratic values, as reflected in the political struggles associated with the late B. P. Koirala, Nepal's first democratically elected Prime Minister, and the late Girija Prasad Koirala, former Prime Minister of Nepal.
Believing that the achievements of democracy must extend beyond political freedom to encompass economic prosperity, employment, and self-reliance, Mrs. Dahal recognizes the vital role of industrial development and productive economic sectors in Nepal's sustainable development. Guided by this vision, she is leading the institutional development and implementation of initiatives through UNFOLD Nepal, a non-profit-distributing company.
Through UNFOLD Nepal, she aims to empower young people, particularly those returning from overseas, by promoting entrepreneurship education, vocational skills development, business planning, and access to financial services. Her vision is to encourage self-employment, foster productive enterprises, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
She is committed to collaborating with national and international development partners, government agencies, financial institutions, the private sector, and local communities to promote micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, generate employment, and strengthen local economic activities.
Her long-term vision is to build on the legacy of Nepal's democratic movement by advancing social responsibility, economic empowerment, and inclusive development, thereby contributing to a prosperous, self-reliant, and equitable Nepal.
